Appointed to the guitar faculty of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland at just 21, Ian Watt has been acclaimed by the press as a 'dazzlingly virtuosic' (The Herald) guitarist 'of outstanding skill and originality' (Classical Guitar) with 'an exceptional range of timbre...sublime' (BBC Music Magazine). Having first come to public attention as a 16-year-old finalist on the 2007 BBC Classical Star TV programme, Ian went on to be awarded 2nd prize at the highly prestigious Parkening International Guitar Competition (2009) in the USA, where Soundboard magazine described him as an '18 year-old phenom', as well as winning 1st prizes at both the Heinsberg and Westphalian International Guitar Competitions. He left the competition circuit at the age of 20 and has since appeared as a soloist throughout the world as well as releasing three solo recordings with Nimbus Records. Not content to limit himself to solo guitar playing, Ian works regularly with the UK's finest orchestras and ensembles, including the BBC SSO, Scottish Opera, Welsh National Opera and the Hebrides Ensemble.
