In this book review I discuss Ned Feehally’s “Beastmaking”: a fundamental boulder training book that cuts through the noise of climbing training content and provides a practical starting point for novice and intermediate climbers who want to learn how to train effectively.

I stumbled upon the book when I started getting serious about training for climbing, and it has been foundational in my approach to strength training, injury prevention and my mindset about healthy progression. It is where I found clear information about finger strength, fingerboarding, board training, mobility and core tension, and where I found climbing-specific exercises and workouts that I still add to my sessions today.
