Join leading roboticist Mark Setrakian in conversation with filmmaker and special effects expert Richard Taylor for a deeper insight into the making of Jordan Wolfson’s Body Sculpture— a major acquisition for the National Gallery’s collection.

Setrakian played a crucial role in realising Jordan Wolfson’s vision for Body Sculpture. In this conversation, Setrakian and Taylor will expand on the cutting-edge technology that has made Body Sculpture possible and what it might mean for the future of robotics.

Mark Setrakian is one of the world’s leading experts in animatronics and robotics. His career spans nearly four decades of innovation in film, television, theme park attractions, and the art world. Setrakian’s creations are evocative robotic beings that move with uncanny fluidity, existing at the nexus of sound, motion, form, and cutting-edge technology.

Richard Taylor is the co-founder, Creative Director and CEO of Wētā Workshop, the Aotearoa/New Zealand based concept design and manufacturing facility. In 2010, Taylor was made a Knight Companion of the NZ Order of Merit for his services to film and has won 5 Academy awards for his work across special make up effects, costume, and visual effects.
