USD Coin was developed in 2014 by the Centre consortium, a partnership between the Circle and Coinbase teams. USDC is a fiat-collateralized stablecoin. A stablecoin is a decentralized digital asset that lives on the blockchain and is pegged to a fiat currency to stabilize it against the volatility of other cryptocurrencies.
