The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) is a premier public technical and research university located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Established in 1959 with assistance from the former government of West Germany, it is recognized as an Institute of National Importance and is one of the eight public Institutes of Eminence in India .
