Aera is a new name in watchmaking that combines British design with Swiss engineering. It was established by a small team of industry veterans who felt there was an opportunity to put a more contemporary spin on the classic tool watch, starting with the dive watch and the pilot watch. We wanted to build our watches out of the highest-quality materials and sell them at a price that seemed fair. It was a space we felt had largely been abandoned by the established brands.

We wanted our watches to feel fresh, new, different and modern. So that’s how we designed them. Each and every one is hand-finished in Switzerland, where every detail is checked and double-checked to ensure it meets our most rigorous standards. To make tool watches feel modern and contemporary we stripped out any superfluous details. That helps maximise legibility, but it also leaves no room for imperfection. Everything about our watches has to look great and it has to work perfectly.

We like to think this attention to detail shines through in our one-piece dials, our unique domed crystals and our matt black ‘velvet’ lacquer that covers our watch faces. It’s there too in our simple, quick-release straps. And even in the hand-finished packaging that we deliver all our watches in. It’s why our D-1 Diver and P-1 Pilot have been featured as “watches of the year” in magazines as diverse as Vanity Fair and Esquire, and recognised by dedicated watch titles such as Hodinkee and Watchtime.
