Watch an actual ACL reconstruction knee surgery. Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries of the knee are very common and often the result of sports or other traumatic events. These injuries are often treated with an ACL reconstruction surgery, where tissue from around the knee is used to reconstruct the torn ligament. In this first video of our new "Surgical Theater" series, Dr. Asghar Husain, an orthopedic surgeon at Arrowhead Orthopedics, reviews the specific details and 5 steps of an ACL reconstruction surgery of the right knee. Using footage of an actual surgery that he performed, along with commentary that covers some interesting details, curiosities, facts, and aspects (along with some interesting tangents), and some educational inserts that clarify each step and what is happening using a model of the knee,, Dr. Asghar will cover all 5 steps of the surgery: harvesting the graft from a ligament and then prepping it, knee arthroscopy, the preparation of the tibial tunnel that graft will go through, the preparation of the femoral tunnel that the graft will go through, and ending with the final placement and fixation of the graft.
