The Handel Aria Competition is an annual event dedicated to promoting the performance of Handel’s extensive vocal repertoire.

This year’s Handel Aria Competition took place on Friday, August 18, 2023 in the historic Grace Episcopal Church on the capitol square in Madison, Wisconsin.

The five finalists were chosen from an international field of over 125 applicants. They are:

Olivia Doig, soprano
Andrew Bearden Brown, tenor
Matthew Reese, countertenor
Fran Daniel Laucerica, tenor
Emily Donato, soprano

The judges for the final round of the 9th annual Handel Aria Competition were Sam Handley, Paul Rowe, and Chase Hopkins.

This year's winners were Emily Donato, soprano, first prize; Andrew Bearden Brown, tenor, second prize; and Fran Daniel Laucerica, tenor, third prize.

We invite you to make a donation to help us support emerging singers throughout the competition process. Funds are needed for travel grants (provided to all finalists to they can afford to come participate) and cash prizes, as well as remuneration for competition judges and instrumental accompanists.
