STORYLINE:

Human rights advocates held a protest outside the U.S. Embassy in Manila on Tuesday, to mark International Human Rights Day.

About a hundred protesters, some belonging to peace groups in the Philippines, urged the United States government to stop what they call its war of aggression, and to halt any plans of attacking Iraq.

They also criticised Philippines President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for her government's all-out support of the U.S.-led war against terrorism.

The demonstrators were arguing that U.S. aggression has caused more suffering for the poor and is likely to lead to more human rights violations.

Anti-riot police stood guard as demonstrators approached the embassy, but allowed them to stage their protest from across the street.
