You know me, if something can be soloed, I'm gonna do it. This is the first part, and currently the only part, of the new raid lair that can be soloed (I'm not counting the jumping puzzle).
So let me clarify a few things about the run. How does the greed debuff work?
When you pick up a ball, you must charge it with "mist" from one of the plates. Without a ball in your hands, the mist gives you a debuff called "engulfed." With the ball in your hands, it charges the ball with a debuff called "greed." This is basically a countdown timer until you are killed, when the timer reaches x11. This means you can pick up and drop the ball until one of two things happens: either the x11 greed will kill you, or the ball's reset timer will fade and it will disappear. The reset timer ticks everytime the ball leaves a player's hands; the timer never resets. So the idea is to utilize the ball as much as possible before it disappears or kills you. Greed does NOT determine how much damage the ball does when thrown.
How exactly does this encounter work, especially solo?
Think of each of the four plates as "charges." When you stand on a plate with a charged ball, it raises the plate, thus charging the plate. A fully raised plate is a fully charged plate. Once you get off the plate, the charge decreases slowly. If a plate is left unattended for too long, the charge becomes too low and a wipe mechanic ensues. For the solo, the best strategy is to fully raise each plate before moving to the next. This ensures that you are optimizing each plate's charge.
How are you able to move between all four plates without dying from the debuffs?
This is a combination of throwing the ball, picking it back up, and Nova Bomb cancelling. Throwing a ball towards your next destination temporarily relieves you of the greed debuff. When you next approach the ball, you can activate your Nova Bomb super and the ball pickup animation will cancel the Nova Bomb animation, allowing you to keep your super fully charged. This works because activating a super RESETS your greed debuff, allowing you to continue holding the ball. Then the ball pickup resets your super. So it's a clever circle of resets. This allows me to run a full loop around the arena, fully raising all four plates each loop. Then I pick up a fresh ball and begin again. It takes about two full loops to remove the barrier from the center piece.
A devour Warlock is SO, SO important here. You are able to devour your grenade for full health WHILE holding the ball. I do this on almost every plate.
But how are you getting your grenade on every plate?
I am wearing the exotic helmet called Apotheosis Vail. This helmet fully replenishes your health, grenade, melee, and class ability upon super cast. Since I'm Nova cancelling after each plate, I always regain full health and have a grenade ready for the next plate. You have to be so fast in this solo run, that you just don't have time to clear any enemies.
Lastly, my weapon setup. I'm using Mida Multi-Tool and Mini-Tool. These give me the speed buffs that I need, since I'm not using Transversive Steps.
