Britain has released a raft of previously secret files related to reports of unidentified flying objects. One of the most compelling is the first hand account of an American fighter pilot ordered to fire at a suspected UFO. Milton Torres describes how, in 1957, he and another airman were scrambled from a Royal Air Force Base to intercept an unusual bogey.
Torres describes a very bright circle that appeared on his radar. He says he was given an order to fire a full salvo of rockets. He asked for verification of the order--and got it. He then selected 24 rockets to fire.
Torres later wrote that he almost blanked his pants. A similar account was published in a British newspaper 17 years ago, but until now, has never been verified by officials.
Britain's National Archives has put 15-hundred pages of UFO-related documents online. They include first hand accounts of people claiming to have been abducted by aliens. There are also drawings that purport to describe alien ships spotted by ordinary people.
A British official says in the next three to four years, 160 UFO-related files will be made available.
