A PLACE OF HOPE: FROM REFUGEE CAMP TO INTERNATIONAL FASHION MODEL | Halima Aden | TEDxKakumaCamp

Описание к видео A PLACE OF HOPE: FROM REFUGEE CAMP TO INTERNATIONAL FASHION MODEL | Halima Aden | TEDxKakumaCamp

The trajectory of  the lives of refugees can take very unexpected turns. For Halima Aden, born in Kakuma, the lessons she learned as a young refugee helped set the stage for challenges she would face in her new home of America as a Muslim, immigrant and African girl. That inner strength has sent her on a journey to become the first hijabi international fashion model, while remaining true to who she is. (Recorded at TEDxKakumaCamp on June 9, 2018) 20-year-old Halima Aden was born in Kakuma refugee camp, and was resettled to the United States at 7-years-old, growing up in Minnesota. Today she is a successful high-fashion model living in the United States, and a UNICEF goodwill ambassador. She travels internationally, speaking at universities and various events about the importance of inclusion and acceptance. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
