Welcome back to the Wild West Coast of Tasmania. Join me as we journey deep into the past and recover some important mining history which has been lost for centuries!

Last trip, after two seperate expeditions into the field, I managed to find William Slaters long lost 120ft tunnel, which was exactly as described in the newspaper articles from 1880..

This was the first ever hard rock mine on the West Coast of Tasmania, and until now its whereabouts had not only been unknown but also, its very existence.

After exploring the mine, and taking its GPS co-ordinates I had to leave the area to come home and when writing up an report for mineral recourses Tasmania I came across a surprising newspaper article. It was written in 1881 shortly before the company was liquidated and describes visiting several of the features on the company property.

One of these, 'Tunnel #2', being a 300ft tunnel.

This along with all the other features I'm yet to find, like the trenches and deep shafts with drives in them, is reason enough to conduct another search.

Now I know where to look, ill be heading back to leave no stone unturned on this adventure, and thanks to a surprise email, the mystery that once surrounded William Slater is shared in an unforgettable epic tale.
