Darya Saltykova: Russia's Blood Countess

Darya Saltykova has been compared to Hungary’s Countess Elizabeth Bathory. Though Darya was never accused of bathing in her victim’s blood, she was found guilty of killing many of her serfs. As punishment, Darya was publicly humiliated in a Moscow square with a plaque around her neck before imprisonment in a cloister.
