History of the Legendary House of Hermès

Hermes is one of the first luxury brands to begin an online trade. It can come as a surprise that this brand has a history well beyond the handbag. In the early 1800's Hermes became popular as an advanced harness and saddle maker that fit the European elite's creme de la creme. The Hermes logo remains the symbol of the cultural base of the Company.

Theirry Hermes, the man behind this dreamy tale of fragrance and hide, pochettes and gauntlets, was born on January 10th, 1801, in Krefeld, Germany. Still, as diseases and war reduced a part of his family, they moved to Paris in 1828.

It was there, Theirry began catering to the needs of French noblemen with harnesses and bridles. He never compromised on quality, thus allowing them to earn a good reputation in the fashion world.

Once he passed away, his grandchildren continued their excellent work of making saddles and selling their products in a retail fashion for the first time. The Hermes brothers opened their business to the global elite by the production of stylish bags and purses.

This story is proof of how decades of diligence never stopped Hermes from making room for more improvement. They refused to forget their beginning. Despite the evolution of fashion, they continue to produce world-class saddles for revolutionary persons, telling their admirers that Hermes is here to stay!

Fun fact: The thread length used to make 1,000 Hermes neckerchiefs is the same as the distance from the earth to the moon. Impressive, right?
