Ben Doak, who joined Liverpool from Celtic in March 2022, has already made three senior appearances for the Reds. Though he’s yet to earn a senior cap for Scotland, his performances for the Under-16, Under-17, and Under-21 teams have been nothing short of spectacular. Clarke is optimistic about what Doak can bring to the table, noting his unique talent and speed. “Ben’s obviously got a lot of talent, he catches your eye,” Clarke said. “The pace is something we haven’t got an abundance of in the squad. He’s something a little bit different.”

Veterans Return
Another exciting inclusion is veteran winger James Forrest of Celtic, who makes a return to the national team after almost three years. Forrest’s resurgence at the end of the domestic season has not gone unnoticed. Clarke praised his professionalism, stating, “James epitomises how to conduct yourself if things aren’t going well. Train well, work well, keep your head down, keep believing, and you never know.”

Other Notable Inclusions
Bristol City’s defender Ross McCrorie and seasoned pros like Grant Hanley (Norwich) and Ryan Jack (Rangers) have also been called up, despite recent injury woes. Unfortunately, injuries have sidelined right-backs Aaron Hickey and Nathan Patterson, as well as Bologna’s midfielder Lewis Ferguson.

Final Squad Decision Looms
Clarke must trim his squad from 28 to 26 by June 8, after friendlies against Gibraltar and Finland. “I just wanted to give myself a little bit of breathing space to have a look at certain players, how they are, how their fitness is,” Clarke explained.
