Thousands of residents of Tughlaqabad village are spending sleepless nights in the wake of eviction notices issued by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Located near the historical Tughlaqabad Fort, the colony houses people who have migrated mostly from West Bengal and Bihar. The matter came to light when a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in March 2001, stating that the ASI has failed to “protect & maintain the historic Tughlakabad Fort”. The notice states the removal of illegal occupants of houses inside Tughlaqabad Fort area by January 26. Residents fear for their future.
