Underneath all of the "ugly" exterior, lies a very beautiful, yet also very tragic love story between Zhu Bajie and the Violet Spider. Violet Spider remained patient and literally waited her entire life for Bajie to return that love to her. However, Zhu Bajie did not return that love and instead remained on "the mission", mostly to protect Violet Spider from the gods that cursed him.
