Opening remarks Samul Kobia Chairman, National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC)
On the 13th of May 2022, the European Centre for Electoral Support with its partner the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) launched our project PRO PEACE KENYA, a project dubbed “Uchaguzi Bila Noma. The project is being implemented following ECES copyrighted approach called "the European response to electoral cycle support - EURECS" which is an innovative delivery mechanism to implement electoral assistance activities that are consistent primarily with European values and EU policies targeting the facilitation of the cooperation on electoral matters between the EU, the EU member states and their partner countries, in this case, Kenya. PRO PEACE KENYA is an 18-month project fully funded by the European Union and targeted towards the promotion of peace, cohesion and political dialogue via the prevention, mitigation and management of political and election-related conflicts ahead of the upcoming General Elections in Kenya set for the 9th August 2022. The meeting was attended by: H.E Fred Matiang'i, Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of the National Government in Kenya, ably represented by the Wilson Njega, Secretary of Internal Security, H. E. Ambassador Henriette Geiger, represented by H.E. Katrin Hagemann, Deputy Ambassador, EU Delegation to Kenya, Honourable Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia, Chairperson, National Cohesion and Integration Commission, H.E. Erastus Mwencha, Former Vice-Chair of the African Union and Member, ECES Strategic and Advisory Committee, H.E. Filiberto Sebregondi, Vice-President, ECES Strategic Advisory Committee, Anne Ireri, Chairperson, Election Observation Group, Kenya, Harun Hassan, Executive Director, National Council for Persons With Disabilities, Kenya Commissioners of the NCIC, Diplomatic Corps, International Development Partners including IFES, IRI, UNDP, Chief Executives of Civil Society Organisations, Heads of Faith Based Organisations among others.
