This is my setting of the well-known song from Shakespeare's "As You Like It". It is dedicated to the talented Myrlin A. Hermes, and is inspired by her new novel "The Lunatic, The Lover, and the Poet". In the words of Horatio, the novel's protagonist, "Who ever heard of a wintertime pastoral?" I was delighted with the scenario Ms. Hermes imagined to explain the origin of this song (and the oddly unseasonal setting of "As You Like It" itself). This song also seemed an appropriate choice to honor the novel, given that the lyrics perfectly describe Horatio's emotions as he finds himself embroiled in a highly unusual love triangle.
