Riffo Silvershade – Background
Riffo Silvershade was born and raised in Baldur’s Gate, in a neighborhood largely inhabited by Halflings. His mother, Tilly Seamscilley, was a tailor of uncommon generosity. She crafted garments for everyone—wealthy patrons, common folk, and even the homeless. Those who could not afford even a copper piece were still measured and dressed, for Tilly believed that dignity should never be denied.

His father, Bonn Glittergold (a Halfling, not a gnome), was a skilled yet underappreciated gemcutter. Once, he cut a flawless blue diamond for an aristocrat, who rewarded him with a mere ten gold pieces. The jewel was later set into a piece of jewelry worth at least a thousand gold pieces. Bonn never complained, though he quietly refused to ever work for that aristocrat again.

One day, Tilly sent Riffo to the marketplace to purchase a large jar of high elven honey—priced at ten gold pieces, the same amount Bonn had earned for his masterful diamond cut. She intended to use it for her famous honey-glazed badger steaks, flavored with fresh mint from her garden.

At the market, Riffo noticed the honey stall. The merchant was speaking with a caravan leader, boasting about the very piece of jewelry crafted from Bonn’s flawless diamond. While their attention was elsewhere, Riffo moved casually toward the stand. Without hesitation, he plucked the jar of honey and slipped it into his bag. Smooth and silent, he also pocketed the ten gold pieces meant for the purchase.

No one noticed. No one spoke of it. Riffo had made the perfect steal. He discovered how easy it was—watch your surroundings, move without sudden gestures, and the world would never suspect. From that day forward, Riffo embraced the path of the thief: self-made, observant, and quietly cunning.
