A nostalgia for pre-war Afghanistan as well as a political symbol for the region :).
Dilruba was as popular and widely used instrument in pre-war Afghanistan as Rubab is. Sadly due to the years of war and demise of most of the Dilruba masters and musicians, also with the widespread use of electronic keyboards, playing of the actual Dilruba as an instrument as well as Rubab to an extent, in today's common Afghan music, is almost nonexistent.
We are delighted to present this classical video as a reminder, as to how beautiful real Dilruba and real Rubab sound together. In fact, both rob the heart of the listener which is within the meaning of "Dilruba".
It also represents a beautiful harmony from a political point of view as Ustad Shahbaz Hussain joins in on Tabla, Saphwat symbolically representing Afghanistan, Shahbaz representing Pakistan while Kirpal represents India.
Recorded live, June 2018 at The Music Room of Friend's Hearth (Kashana-e-ikhlas)-London.
