— Chunky S-turns —

The first video is slowed down, the second is realtime. This is a chunky set of s-turns down lava rock where it was important for me to stay with the front end and twist my body to set up for each turn.

To help stabilize my body position above the bike I wedged my feet between the pedals with my front heel down and my back foot (toes pointed slightly down) pressed against the rear pedal. This locked me in between my pedals so I didn’t get bounced off my flat pedals. My bodyweight was in my feet so my arms were maneuverable and ready to react.

In order to guide the front wheel down the rocks, I absorbed the bumps with my arms and kept my chin above the stem so I could control the steering. If my butt would have moved too far back it would have extended my arms away from the front end which makes it hard to control.

Each bumpy corner required a fairly tight turn of the front wheel, a slight lean of the bike in the direction of the corner, and a twist of my body to set me up to face where I was headed. I also took the corners as wide as possible with the front wheel since the rear wheel likes to cut corners and could have smacked rocks on the inside of the turns.

Can you see how my hips are off to the outside of the bike for each corner? That’s because both knees, belly, femmebot laser beams, and head were all turning IN the direction of the corner, which put my hips where they needed to be for counter-balance. Does that make sense?
