On July 14th, 1944, a U.S. Army Air Forces B-17 Flying Fortress was torn open by a German 88mm flak shell over Budapest.

The explosion erased the entire cockpit and nose section, killing two crewmen instantly. The bomber should have fallen out of the sky.

It didn’t.

With no instruments, no cockpit, and bare control cables exposed to 300 mph wind, the remaining crew kept the aircraft airborne by pulling steel cables by hand inside the bomb bay.

For 10 impossible minutes, the B-17 flew through enemy territory held together by physics, desperation, and teamwork.

One by one, the crew bailed out. The pilot stayed until the last possible second.

This is the true story of Evald Swanson and the crew of MSPA, one of the most unbelievable survival stories of World War II aviation history.

These men were not supposed to survive. But they did.
