In this video, I take an Alocasia African Mask that’s been struggling with yellowing, drooping leaves and cut it all the way back.

Instead of trying to save failing foliage, I explain why cutting everything down to the corm can actually give stressed Alocasias their best chance to recover. When these plants are under stress, they’ll sacrifice leaves to protect the base. As long as the corm is firm and healthy, there’s still hope for new growth.

I also uncover a surprise corm while digging, which means there may be new growth (and new content) on the way. This is a realistic look at what to do when an Alocasia just isn’t cooperating — no pretending, no babying, just giving the plant a fresh start.
