Acura is making a bold move into the electric vehicle (EV) market with the reveal of its Performance EV Concept. Following the launch of the 2024 ZDX, Acura’s first EV, this new concept marks a pivotal moment for the brand, showcasing what lies ahead in the electric era. Unlike the ZDX, which shares its platform with the Cadillac Lyriq and is built by General Motors, the Performance EV Concept will be the first Acura based on Honda’s own EV platform, highlighting a significant step in Honda’s broader electrification strategy.
Set to debut at the prestigious Monterey Car Week, the Performance EV Concept will be showcased at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, and the concept lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. This event provides a prime stage for Acura to demonstrate its future vision of electric mobility. Styled as an SUV, the concept draws inspiration from the 2010–2013 ZDX, featuring a sleek, fast roofline that merges Acura’s past with its future.
The Performance EV Concept’s bold design includes a dramatic two-tone effect with blacked-out pillars and roof, enhancing its modern and sophisticated look. According to Acura’s design chief Dave Marek, design elements like the vented hood, the bold diagonal body-side feature, and rounded contours will influence the styling of future Acura models. This concept is not just a showpiece but a glimpse into Acura’s evolving design language.
While specific dimensions remain undisclosed, the Performance EV Concept's size will be more apparent once it's viewed in person. Notably, the new typeface spelling out “A-C-U-R-A” across the rear liftgate will become a defining feature on all of Acura’s upcoming electrified models, unifying the brand’s identity as it dives deeper into the EV landscape.
Honda’s commitment to electrification is further emphasized by a $700 million revamp of its Ohio manufacturing facilities, including its Marysville and East Liberty assembly plants and the Anna engine plant. These revamped operations will support the production of the Performance EV Concept’s future iterations, with the first models expected by late 2025. A partnership with LG Energy will ensure that these vehicles are equipped with advanced battery cells, keeping Acura at the forefront of EV technology.
Acura’s unveiling of the Performance EV Concept signals a new era defined by innovation, performance, and sustainability. This concept is not just a look at what’s to come but a statement of Acura’s intent to lead in the electric vehicle market.
