In this video, we test five popular aquarium substrate combinations over two weeks to compare their effects on water quality, clarity, and overall performance. We walk through the full setup, track changes in nitrite, nitrate, and pH, and offer observations about beginner aqua-plant growth and more.

We used different mixes of sand and gravel, we also included aquatic plants like Ludwigia, Duckweed, and Pearl Weed to observe how they interact with each substrate.To keep things realistic, we added Ramshorn Snails and Bladder Snails as the tank inhabitants. The experiment is ongoing, as aquarium science continues to evolve.
