In 2025, the Southern California HIV/AIDS Policy Research Center focused on tracking and analyzing the rapidly evolving HIV policy landscape in California.

This Year in Review highlights research that examined how proposed and enacted policies may affect HIV prevention, care, and related syndemics across the state. Our work centered on identifying policy trends, assessing potential impacts, and translating complex legislative activity into clear, accessible insights for policymakers, public health leaders, and community partners.

Throughout the year, the Southern California Center monitored and analyzed legislation related to:

-HIV prevention and sexual health
-Access to care and supportive services
-Intersecting issues such as housing, substance use, and health equity
-Policy developments shaping public health systems and funding

Our research is designed to help decision-makers better understand how policy choices play out in practice—and where gaps or unintended consequences may arise. By providing timely analysis grounded in evidence, the Center supports informed policymaking that reflects real-world conditions and implementation challenges.

The Southern California HIV/AIDS Policy Research Center is one of three regional policy research centers supported by the California HIV/AIDS Research Program (CHRP). Together, the centers work to produce policy-relevant research that supports California’s efforts to prevent HIV, improve care, and reduce health inequities.
