Описание к видео 5,27 Understand not memorize metabolism: Metabolism during starvation

In this video, we shall answer the question: What happens if you do not eat for several days after a meal? We discuss the key metabolic events that occur as we progress from the post-prandial state to early starvation and then enter the proteolysis stage of late starvation and eventually into the protein conservation phase of late starvation. We shall see how blood glucose is maintained by dietary glucose, followed by liver glycogenolysis and then by gluconeogenesis in the liver, small intestine and kidneys in order to supply glucose to the brain and RBCs, while other cells start using fatty acids (beta-oxidation) for their energy needs during starvation. We also discuss the importance of ketone bodies, ketogenesis (ketone body synthesis) and their utilization for energy by brain and other organs except liver and RBCs..
