Feyzullah Çınar was an important folk poet from the 20th Century. He comes from an Alevi background and was supporting the Leftist camp in Turkey in the years of repression in the 1970s and 80s. After his concerts police would take him to prison for his lyrics. Engin Arslan is an important present day composer and Bağlama player, performing here in Unkapanı, a big music market in Istanbul, which used to be very busy until the 1990s and is now just a memory of its glorious past.
