3D Laser Scanning is a non-contact, non-destructive technology that digitally
captures the shape of physical objects using laser light. 3D laser scanners
create “point clouds” of data by scanning over them with laser light. In other
words, 3D laser scanning is a way to capture a physical object’s exact size
and shape into the computer world as a digital 3-dimensional representation.

Virtual Simulation Validates Steel Mill Capacity
PMC’s simulation team created a model of a state-of-the-art steel mill for
the purpose of capacity validation. The model was used to conduct several
‘what-if’ analyses of mill operations. PMC demonstrated that the mill was
capable of maintaining desired producing levels, ascertained the locations
of tight constraints in the system, and also identified potential bottlenecks in
the production process.

The Role of Simulation in Design of Material Handling Systems
Discussing the role of simulation in material handling design as it applies
to different phases of a material handling project. The different phases of a material
handling project discussed include the conceptual phase, detailed design phase, launching
phase, and fully operational phase. The appendix of the paper contains a list of the issues
addressed by simulation in the different phases of a material handling, project for each
equipment type.
