"There will be an agreement that brings about the distancing of Hezbollah from Southern Lebanon, the control of the border crossing between Syria and Lebanon, the prevention of the passage of new weapons. If there is not a multi-national force that will get in to control the fences, we will continue to control with our fire towards anyone that gets close to the defined security zone and they will know that they can be hurt."

STORYLINE:
The Israeli Defence Minister Amir Peretz said on Tuesday that Israel will maintain a "security zone" in southern Lebanon until an international force arrives there.
Peretz did not say whether Israeli soldiers would remain in Lebanon or would maintain the zone using airstrikes and artillery fire.
Israel had initially been opposed to an international force in southern Lebanon, preferring that the Lebanese army secure the border, but in recent days it has said it would accept a force under NATO's (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) command.
"There will be a security zone, which will be under the control of our forces," Peretz told a crowd of soldiers and assembled media in an undisclosed location in Northern Israel.
Such a statement echoed Israel's 18-year occupation of south Lebanon from 1982- 2000 during which they maintained a self-proclaimed security zone.
He added, "if there is not a multi-national force that will get in to control the fences, we will continue to control with our fire towards anyone that gets close to the defined security zone and they will know that they can be hurt.""
Peretz said he was confident that a deal, favourable to Israel, would be reached to end the 14 days of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.
"There will be an agreement that will bring about the distancing of Hezbollah from south Lebanon, the control of the border crossings between Syria and Lebanon, the prevention of the passage of new weapons," he said.
