After finding out that jack's wife Irina, had an affair with sloane which resulted in them having a child together jack is not willing to help sloane get out of prison. Jack knows sloane is innocent but he is too angry about the affair that happened almost 30 years ago to help him. Jack fools sloane by lacing his drink with a drug that will make sloane seem dead. I love that jack really made him think he was dying.
