Hasselblad 500cm DIGITAL!

Welcome back to the channel!

In this video, I’ll take you through my setup for medium format photography - A Hasselblad 500cm with film and digital backs!

The classic Hasselblad 500cm first came out in 1970, and has since been an iconic camera used by many of the world’s most recognized photographers, including the likes of Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton and Albert Watson to name a few.

Swedish in design, the precise and beautifully crafted Hasselblad 500CM, combined with legendary German optics by Carl Zeiss, make this a wonderful camera to operate, even today! Due to the popularity of these cameras, digital back manufacturers like Phase One have developed medium format backs that fit easily on the Hasselblad 500 series cameras. These are called “V” series backs.

If you’re willing to live with the limitations of the P25 CCD sensor, mainly due to the CCD sensor’s inability to capture clean images above 100 iso, the back produces beautiful colours and overall amazing image quality.

I use this setup outdoors in good light or in the Studio with Flash.
Tethered to a MAC or PC using firewire and C1 Pro capture software is a great way to work for the serious portrait photographer. You can also take it out on the street, as it’s light enough to carry around, and capture images to compact flash cards.

My name is Carmine Groe.

With street photography, my goal is to enjoy the process in an open and honest way, to make connections with strangers while making their portrait as well as capturing candid moments of every day life on the street.
