An early morning fire broke out at a car workshop and warehouse in Sydenham, Christchurch sending plumes of toxic smoke over the city. One firefighter was injured and taken to hospital following the blaze. An emergency alert was sent out via text to nearby residents and businesses advising to stay indoors due to the toxic smoke. Colombo Street was blocked off between Moorhouse Avenue and Byron Street while crews fought to bring the fire under control.
