While I was working as a homeless advocate for my non-profit S.F. Revival, I became friends with Hank Wilson who was working in homeless advocacy and service. When Hank died in 2008 I attended his funeral and one of the speakers mentioned his history as manager of the Ambassador Hotel. The speaker also mentioned how the hotel was featured in a KRON documentary. The speaker added that Hank didn’t want to take attention away from the residents in the video, so that's why you hardly see him in the documentary even though he was the main force behind the incredibly good things happening there. (Hank appears in part 2 at the 2:29 mark.)

I then called KRON and asked for a copy and they didn’t have one. I then searched the S.F. public library that had copies of public interest documentaries, and they didn’t have one. I then began asking around the homeless advocate community to see if they had one, and no one did. I eventually ran into Jackie from the Ambassador Hotel at a meeting and asked her if the hotel had one, and they didn’t, but she said she would ask around.

After two years of searching and many months after connecting with Jackie, she found someone at the hotel who had a copy on an old VHS tape. The owner lent it to me through Jackie, and I copied the video into a digital format and uploaded it to YouTube. Back then you couldn’t upload large files so that’s why it’s in 4 parts.

I haven’t made any money off of this video and don’t plan to. If my account ever gets monetized I will make sure this video is not monetized. So far there hasn’t been a copyright strike, but I’m hopeful that the owners won’t complain since I’ve been told they don’t have a copy. If they want to use my copy and load it onto their YouTube channel they are free to do so and I will take this down.
