"There was no blame game, rather a clear sense that in Asia, as well as in Europe, we are on the same boat as the global economy keeps us tightly interlinked. Myself and many European leaders explained the substantial reforms undertaken by the EU and by its member states. We explained also that the Euro is on the right track and the Euro is an irreversible project."

"A strong rejection of protectionism and an importance that trade can have for strong sustainable growth. And this is why we are pursuing this agenda which we believe is mutually beneficial and I hope that will achieve some concrete progress."

"The decision on disbursement will be taken by the Euro group after analysis of the troika report which is in the stage of finalisation in Athens and I mentioned that there is the remaining issue on privatisation which has to be solved. In any case, I urge the Greek government and the leading political parties to decide on what is needed to reach a final agreement with the troika and I'm quite sure that this will be done in due time."

STORYLINE
The summit of Asian and European leaders in Laos ended on Tuesday, with a call for closer engagement between the two continents in order to address the current global economic and financial crisis.
There was also an unequivocal statement of the Euro's survival, from the head of the European Council, Herman Van Rompuy.
The two-day meeting brought together leaders and ministers from 49 countries and several leading institutions in Asia and Europe.
The backdrop to the meeting was the crisis in Europe which has affected not only most economies there but also their trading partners in Asia.
But if there was any sense of resentment that Asia was being asked to carry its ailing European friends it didn't show, at least according to the President of the European Council.
"There was no blame game" said Herman van Rompuy. "Rather a clear sense that in Asia as well as in Europe, we are all on the same boat."
He also took the opportunity to strongly reaffirm the future of the Euro.
"The Euro" he said "is an irreversible project."
According to European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso other issues were strongly reaffirmed included a commitment to fight against trade barriers that have crept in in some places as a result of the crisis.
Though not on the Asia Europe Meeting agenda, the spectre of Greece was in the background of the economic summit.
The European Council President was asked about the ongoing uncertainty over the disbursement of Greece's next bail-out payment.
He played down fears over possible problems and made a familiar appeal to Athens.
"I urge the Greek government and leading political parties to decide what is needed to reach a final agreement with the troika," Van Rompuy said
The next ASEM meeting will be held in Brussels in two years time.
