Raptor Body Language ✨ Manning 'Halo' in BC's Capital city | The Falconry Series

Описание к видео Raptor Body Language ✨ Manning 'Halo' in BC's Capital city | The Falconry Series

What does it mean when your hawk or falcon baits off the glove? Stress? Anxiety?

Journeyman Falconer Joanne Bentley breaks down raptor body language when introducing 'Halo', our beautiful feathered companion, to a new environment - the Legislature buildings in Victoria, BC!

'Halo' makes a new friend in 'Lucas', the carriage-horse, sees a mobility scooter for the first time, learns what a security guard is, and observes people splashing-about in a swimming pool!

We'd like to offer a massive shout-out to Victoria Carriage Tours for facilitating the introduction between 'Halo' and 'Lucas'! Thanks so much!

So, what exactly is manning?

From Wikipedia: the acclimation of a Falconry bird to living and working with humans and things typically associated with humans, such as other pets, houses, or automobiles.

But it's also a lot more than that; it's introducing a new space while creating a calm, positive communication between yourself and your feathered companion.

Jo explains what to look for in your Feathered-one, what they're expressing, and how to facilitate communication.

Questions? Comments? We'd love to hear from you!

Your guide is Journeyman Falconer Joanne Bentley, a practitioner with fifteen years experience in the handling and schooling of raptors, and her young assistant Leah Danielle, herself a student of the Art intent on deepening her understanding of the (at least) 8000+ year-old practice.

With light-hearted humour, and a gentle, informational approach to conveying the techniques of “winning” one’s Feathered-companion into first working with us, then for the eye of the camera, Jo and Leah’s desire is to inspire established and new participants, wildlife enthusiasts, birders, and the wider public to inform and teach humanity about the intangible “living human-heritage” which every one of us may lay claim to through the Art of Falconry.

Thank you for watching!
