Reef Under Sail, Heaving-to Outside the Golden Gate Bridge

How does it feel to reef under sail outside the Golden Gate bridge in choppy sea condition when max ebb current clashes with Pacific ocean swell? Well we knew it now because we just did it today for practice. One thing I can tell you for sure is that it’s pretty labor intensive. Whenever sailing in the short distance between Golden Gate and Point Bonita, I have all your senses on high alert - wind strength, direction, tidal current, ocean swell, other boats, lee shores, and cargo ships. That’s not an easy place to sail, but also very satisfying after a long day.
