In this video, I will discuss the difference between hazards and risks in more detail. I will also provide some examples of hazards and risks, and discuss how to manage them.

What is the difference between hazard and risk?

In the world of health and safety, the terms "hazard" and "risk" are often used interchangeably. However, there is a subtle but important difference between the two.

A hazard is something that has the potential to cause harm. For example, a sharp object, a slippery surface, or a chemical substance can all be hazards.

A risk is the likelihood of harm occurring. This is determined by two factors: the likelihood of the hazard being encountered, and the severity of the harm that could result.

For example, a sharp object is a hazard that could cause a cut. The likelihood of someone being cut by a sharp object depends on how often they are exposed to sharp objects, and how careful they are when handling them. The severity of a cut could range from a minor scratch to a serious laceration.
