Hey gang,
You know the deal by now — I work for a company that buys and sells comics books (www.sellmycomicbooks.com) and it's my job to grade the issues we sell as "raw singles" on eBay (seller name: dotcomcomics). So, each time I'm given a box books to work on, I invite you to watch along as I pull those issues out to see what my work day will entail. And generally, because I'm not the one who culled those comics from various purchased collections, I'm as surprised as you at what I find.
So, what we wind up with is a chance to look at a lot of really cool old comic books, with lots of jumping off points for discussion about the history, craft, creators, and characters of a medium that is one of the few truly American art forms.
In this video, we have extended tangents on, among other things:
• Sales of Amazing Spider-Man and what to sell as raw singles vs. in mutli-book lots,
• Issues with the early direct sales market that confounded newsstand distributors,
• What “arrival dates" are and how they impact a comic book's grade,
• The merger of the Superman family titles into the Superman Family comic books, with those odd oust-merger one-offs,
• and the death of Alfred Pennywoth and his revival in the wake of the Adam West tv show.
That said, grab some popcorn and a tasty beverage, sit back, relax, and have some fun. And don't hesitate to add your own thoughts in the comments section, below.
