In this video, our own ITC Certified Thermographer Devin goes into deep detail comparing the FLIR C5 to the Seek ShotPro. Both of these thermal cameras are right around the same price, and both are about the same size. Each one has a 3.5-inch touchscreen display and is about the size of a smartphone so they're both small enough to fit in your pocket.

However, there are some big differences between the two. First of all, the Seek ShotPro has higher infrared resolution at 320x240 pixels. The FLIR C5 has thermal resolution of 160x120 - that's still very powerful and meets the RESNET standard for building inspection.

Overall, the Seek ShotPro will provide sharper thermal images thanks to its higher resolution. However, while resolution is important, it's not the only thing to consider when comparing these cameras. The FLIR C5 comes from one of the biggest names in thermal imaging, so it has a much more polished user interface and overall better quality sensor. FLIR also has a robust reporting suite of free software like FLIR Tools which makes it easy to make professional reports.

Additionally, the C5 has a new feature called FLIR Ignite Cloud, which is essentially like Google Photos but for your thermal images. When you're connected to WiFi (or connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth), the C5 camera will automatically upload all your images to the FLIR Ignite Cloud so you always have them backed up. FLIR Ignite Cloud also has some great features to help you stay organized.

While both cameras do have some form of visual/thermal image blending, the way these methods work for each camera is totally different. On the FLIR C5, you get powerful FLIR MSX which takes visual details from the unit's built-in digital camera and embosses them on thermal images - it's not an overlay or layer blending, it's much better. On the Seek ShotPro, you get Seek Fusion which is a more straightforward layer blending technology. It still provides visual details in IR images, but it's nowhere near as crisp and clear as FLIR MSX. Check out the sample IR images in the video to see for yourself.

Both cameras can also connect to WiFi and communicate with smartphones. However, on the C5, you also have the option to do this via Bluetooth. We've found the Bluetooth option to be more reliable. It's also much faster to connect and reconnect since the camera will remember the last Bluetooth device it was connected to.

When you connect either camera to a smartphone, you can then use the respective FLIR and Seek apps. Using these apps, you can adjust and edit images before exporting. On the Seek, other than on the camera itself, this is the only way to edit images. On the FLIR, you can also use the free FLIR Tools desktop software to edit and process images. FLIR Tools also has an excellent reporting feature for making professional reports - if you require reporting, we strongly recommend FLIR.
