**At Baldo Degli Ubaldi station on Line A, we have a set of 6 O&K-Fiam escalators here but not all were running on my visit. I have an old video somewhere of the other long escalator from 2018 which I'll post sometime. There is also another set of 6 at the other end's entrance to this station, but these are not as tall because this station runs directly below a road on a steep hill.

The taller set are the longest in Rome, and a very rare type - RTV-HDM (the highest level of heavy-duty off the shelf escalators O&K built). The lower set are RTV-HD-99S, a lighter Heavy duty type. At the other end, we have 3 RTV-HD-99S escalators and 3 RTV-HD-999S - in-between the 99s and HDM variants. That video will follow. All escalators in this station were made in the Hattingen, Germany factory.

Also - what does RTV stand for?... Well, Orenstein & Koppel Rolltreppen was a German company. All of their escalator model names started with RT, and all of their Travelators started with RS. RT is short for Rolltreppe and RS is short for Rollsteig (the German terms for escalator and travelator). The V stands for 'Vario'. Released in 1994, these escalators used what was completely new motor technology at the time, the 'TransVario' drive was a more efficient AC planetary gear system rather than traditional DC worm gear drives. They worked with the 'VarioTronic401' system computer. Depending on the run speed the motor sound is different and very distinctive but here they've become unusually loud.
