Описание к видео The Case for Medical Brain Preservation - Advocacy by Max Li

We have posted this film on behalf on Max Li, a 19-year-old terminal patient who is advocating for mainstream scientific discussion around recent developments in brain preservation technology & the ultimate goal of regulated brain preservation being an option offered in hospitals.

Max has also recorded a longer film which narrates his journey towards deciding to advocate for brain preservation, including his initial cancer diagnosis, his life's goals prior to his cancer's return & the benefits that he believes brain preservation would provide to terminal patients. The link to that film can be found below:

We have transcribed Max's advocacy in this film below:

I'm Max Li - A terminal-patient, and an advocate for the scientific and medical development of brain preservation. Due to its potential significance to many terminal patients, it is unacceptable that progress in brain preservation is not being addressed by the larger scientific community.

The latest brain-banking method, Aldehyde-Stabilized Cryopreservation, should be examined by the neuroscience community, and barring the realization of a better preservation method, should then be developed into an end-of-life medical procedure. Brain preservation is a concrete and meaningful way for the medical system to address the existential suffering of those who knowingly approach death from a terminal disease and would prefer to have a slim chance of revival over none at all.

In the absence of other legal avenues, thousands of people are currently signed up for back-alley preservation procedures offered by unregulated companies. Given this reality, I hope it is not a difficult ask for neuroscientists to examine new research that one of their colleagues, Dr. Kenneth Hayworth, has publicly argued raises the possibility of future revival. If, as he claims, the physical details that modern neuroscience suggests likely encode our long-term memories can be preserved for well over a century, then in my view brain preservation would grant a terminal patient the best chance of future-revival possible today.

Terminal patients who desire such an end-of-life option should not be forced outside of the medical system in order to find it. Brain preservation requires the scientific backing and medical accountability necessary to achieve the goal of offering a terminal-patient the best possible chance of future-revival. Like other end-of-life options currently available, brain preservation prioritizes the final wishes of the terminally-ill over prolonging their lives. With the right support and development, I am extremely optimistic that brain preservation will eventually succeed in allowing the ill-fated today to return as a part of humanity's future.

If you would like to support the effort to establish brain preservation as an end-of-life option, possible ways to do so include calling for experts and neuroscientists to publicly engage in the brain preservation debate. Second, asking public figures to indicate their support for this idea, and sharing your unique perspective or insights on brain preservation in a public forum.

Thank you for watching.
