Exploring, Experimenting, and Learning more about Textile Art and Needle Felting. Here is what I have been up to since my last video upload. I wanted to make a thin transparent fiber fusion paper for dry felting so I watched youtube channels sharing there take on making fiber paper, I was looking for a thin transparent sheet, that I could add bits and bobs as my inclusions for this handmade style paper. With supply and material on hand, I came up with a simple process on how to create this type of thin transparent paper, for layering. The fibers used and the bits of embellishments you add to the process, is adjusted to whatever you are creating. If you are a crafter that does not felt, but you like the look of wool you might be interested in adding wool fibers, keep in mind, not all wool reacts the same with this process. Some wools will lay down flat while others just like being fluffy, this is where you must be careful that you do not felt the wool.
The idea of all of this was that I wanted to create fiber paper to help with my dry felting landscapes.
Embellishments of bits and bobs chosen to lay on top of the fibers will determine the look and how you might be able to incorporate it into a crafting project. I am still refining the technique but wanted to share some of the pieces I have made, using this unique paper making method. I call my fiber paper “Fairy Wings”. I am working on more designs and playing with different fibers and bits of assorted embellishments, to take it to another level of fiber silk fusion.
Each paper I hand make is designed to add bits of inclusions like viscose tops, silk fibers, wool roving, Angelina fibers, tapa cloth, ehal, and Tencel Lyocell fiber are some of the fibers I am mingling together, I hope to make more transparent thin as fairy wings, fiber paper and explore more fibers on the market, like with rose, hemp, bamboo roving, along with other fibers I still have yet to learn about and experiment with.
This video shows my fiber paper recently made, you can pick either side, both sides are beautiful in my opinion The fiber paper can be felted onto wool, pre-felt or added to an already existing felting project, just add wool slightly over the fiber if it is not a natural fiber, this will help adhere it to the substrate, felt it to a piece of wool or pre-felt, can also be cut up, but not torn by hand. You can cut already made fiber paper into small pieces and add to new fiber paper making project, use as inclusion bits. I will share with you in another video how I use this paper on wool. If you do not needle felt or don’t know about textile art, you like to play more with paper crafting or sewing art, this paper also will work. Just add heat bond and or stabilizer or even glue to make a book cover for a book journal, or frame an art piece or scrapbook page, I am sure there even more ways to use this fiber paper.
