How to supply the affordable housing that American cities so critically need in 2025? AFIRE assembled a group of leading commercial real estate thinkers to provide their opinions. Echoing the sentiment of many of our executives, Landon Taylor, CEO of MacFarlane Partners, believes the solution is in public-private partnerships. “We need policy that really enables the development of more housing,” agrees Amy Price, president, BGO.
That policy needs to come from numerous levels of government, according to our experts, who call for incentives from multiple levels of government. “It's not inappropriate to think that the housing sector needs continued incentives that are federally driven,” says Byron Carlock, director of legal and tax for AFIRE. “Because it takes capital to do this, and the capital markets have been shut down now for nearly three years.”
“Housing is very much a story about supply,” says Ann Cole, managing director of J.P. Morgan. “And what you really need in those markets is incentives to develop, incentives to create that supply.”
