1900 - Danse Javanaise - Phono-Cinéma-Théâtre

1) Produced by the Phono-Cinéma-Théâtre Society in 1900 with an unidentified director.
2) It features the French dancer and choreographer Cléopâtre-Diane de Mérode performing a dance inspired by Indochinese choreography.
3) This and other films produced were shown at the Great World Exhibition in Paris in 1900 with two new features compared to all the others: some were hand-colored and had a soundtrack previously recorded and shown on a phonograph in sync with the cinematograph. With this proposal, the French actress Marguerite Vrignault, in partnership with some others, founded the Phono-Cinéma-Théâtre Society, with this system considered a precursor to true sound cinema. However, just over a year after its founding, the company dissolved due to the public's lack of interest in this art form, with no financial return. 4) This film and some others from the Phono-Cinéma-Théâtre collection were considered lost and rediscovered in 1961 in the archives of the Cinémathèque Française. As already mentioned, only the film was recovered here, not the cylinder with the sound file.

2) Apresenta a bailarina e coreógrafa francesa Cléopâtre-Diane de Mérode interpretando uma dança inspirada na coreografia indochinesa.
3) Este e outros filmes produzidos foram exibidos na Grande Exposição Mundial de Paris de 1900 com duas novidades em relação a todos os demais: alguns eram colorizados à mão e possuíam trilha sonora previamente gravada e exibida em um fonógrafo em sincronia com o cinematógrafo. Com essa proposta, a atriz francesa Marguerite Vrignault em sociedade com alguns outros, fundaram a sociedade Phono-Cinéma-Théâtre, com esse sistema considerado precursor do verdadeiro cinema sonoro. Contudo pouco mais de um ano após a fundação, a companhia dissolveu-se devido a falta de interesse do público para essa forma de arte, não havendo retorno financeiro.
4) Este filme e alguns outros do acervo de Phono-Cinéma-Théâtre, foram considerados perdidos e redescobertos em 1961 nos arquivos da Cinemateca Francesa. Este aqui, como já mencionado, somente o filme foi recuperado e não o cilindro com o arquivo sonoro.
