Sevenoaks station was opened in 1868, but when it was opened it was originally named Tubs Hill in regards to the adjacent area of the station. The area was served by two stations, the second one was located on the the branch line to Swanley Junction and was named after a local tavern, which has since closed.

The main and branch lines were both electrified in 1935, it is worth noting that the Southern and Southeastern networks were the first in the uk to be electrified, and at a very early stage seeing as every other railway in the country was working with steam engines. Although I know which one I would prefer.

The station went through a phase of getting reconstructed and in the 1970s the old South Eastern Railway ticket office was demolished and replaced with the structure that we see today.

The station up until 2003 was served by Connex South Eastern but they were eventually removed due to a mixture of poor operating performance and poor financial management.

Sevenoaks is a busy station and one that I would happily come back to at a later stage.

My next station is going to be Dunton Green.
