It seemed likely to be another McLaren-Mercedes one-two walkover. Seven laps from the end, however, Lando Norris, in P2, dramatically pulled to the side of the Zandvoort track with smoke pouring from his McLaren, courtesy of an oil leak. Oscar Piastri, who had led from the pole, would have won this race anyway: as it now stands, he has also seized a massive 25-point surplus over Norris - a margin that may proved to be insurmountable as the year marches on. Max Verstappen extracted 100 per cent - and occasionally a little more - from his Red Bull-Honda eventually to finish second; and third, after maintaining his P4 qualifying position ahead of the Ferraris and Mercedes throughout the race, was the outstanding Isack Hadjar (Racing Bulls-Honda). Neither Ferrari finished after both crashed out at the HunzeRug (Lewis on his own, Charles after being tapped by Mercedes Kimi Antonelli); and Mercedes' George Russell finished P4, his car slowed by accident damage.
