Beyfortus, the RSV antibody/vaccine for infants is out of stock in MANY places. In fact, many - if not most - pediatricians are in short supply.

What happened? When it was first announced, it was announced with tons of advertising and fanfare, saying that it should be given to all infants under eight months, old old, who are entering their first RSV season, or those who are 8 to 9 months old who are high risk.

EXCEPT - the manufacturer doesn’t have enough supply. Yesterday, Sanofi announced that they have paused orders for all doses for children under 11 pounds, and will have a limited supply when they reopen orders, and that they will not be accepting any new orders for doses for children older than 11 pounds.

It’s forced the @cdc and @aap to revise their guidelines, which are now
(1) prioritizing infants under 11 pounds
(2) for infants, who are above 11 pounds, prioritizing, specifically those at high risk for demographic reasons, or because they have chronic medical conditions.
